Nerve injuries can be sustained as a result of trauma, surgery and sometimes due to dental procedures. The trigeminal nerve is commonly injured. The inferior alveolar nerve and lingual nerve are the most commonly injured branches of the trigeminal nerve. Dr. Ferdowsmakan is qualified to diagnose and treat trigeminal nerve injuries. Surgical repair of trigeminal nerve injuries is best done in a timely manner so that the most optimal result can be achieved. In some cases surgery is performed to repair damaged or severed nerves. In other cases no surgery will be required depending on the mechanism of injury. Dr. Ferdowsmakan will perform a series of tests to determine the degree of damage to the nerve. These tests will allow Dr. Ferdowsmakan to formulate a plan of treatment whether surgical or non-surgical.

Fortunately most nerve injuries have been shown to improve either partially or completely without surgical intervention. In the event that surgery is recommended, Dr. Ferdowsmakan will discuss in detail the advantages and disadvantages of surgery so that the patient can make an informed decision about their treatment.
