General anesthesia allows us at Torrey Hills Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery to provide surgical services without anxiety or discomfort to our patients. General anesthesia is provided by Dr. Ferdowsmakan in our state of the art facility with the assistance of trained surgical staff. Our surgical staff are highly trained and certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery assistants who are experienced in the administration of general anesthesia. Patients are fully monitored throughout surgery and during recovery to ensure the highest level of safety.
Patients are accompanied to the office by a responsible adult, usually a family member and escorted home after they are fully recovered from anesthesia. Recovery typically takes about 30 minutes prior to leaving the office with your escort. Prescriptions for analgesics and antibiotics can be phoned to your pharmacy by our staff if desired for convenience. Otherwise a written prescription is given to your escort which can be taken to the pharmacy of your choice.
Patients must not eat or drink anything including water for at least 6 hours PRIOR to their scheduled appointment. Patients who take prescription medications will be instructed on the use of these medications prior to surgery. In most cases medications that are vital such as blood pressure medications should be taken prior to surgery to prevent rises in blood pressure or other problems during surgery. Please check with Dr. Ferdowsmakan or one of our surgical staff if unsure about which medications are safe to take prior to surgery. Medications such as coumadin or other blood thinners generally should not be taken prior to surgery. The use of prescription medications will be discussed at your consultation appointment.
