

Robert Ferdowsmakan, MD, DMD is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a native of Scottsdale, Arizona. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology at Arizona State University. He was then accepted into The University of Pennsylvania School Of Dental Medicine, one of the eight Ivy League Universities. He graduated with top honors and was awarded the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Award For Excellence. Dr. Ferdowsmakan received his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine. He completed his surgical training at the UCLA Medical Center which included an internship in General Surgery and a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Ferdowsmakan's areas of clinical practice include the treatment of facial trauma, orthognathic (corrective jaw) surgery, microsurgical nerve repair, surgical treatment of cysts and tumors involving the jaws, cleft lip and palate surgery, surgical treatment of head and neck infections, dental implants and bone grafting, dentoalveolar surgery and outpatient general anesthesia. Dr. Ferdowsmakan spends numerous hours on continuing medical education each year to remain at the forefront of the most current medical and surgical advances.

Areas of Practice Interest
Dr. Ferdowsmakan's areas of clinical interest include the treatment of maxillofacial trauma. He regularly treats patients who have sustained severe maxillofacial traumatic injuries. Dr. Ferdowsmakan is on the active medical staff at Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla and Scripps Mercy Hospital, San Diego. These hospitals are high level trauma centers serving large geographic regions of San Diego County. Dr. Ferdowsmakan enjoys orthognathic (corrective jaw) surgery, surgical correction of cleft lip and palate birth defects and microsurgical nerve repair. Dr. Ferdowsmakan is currently the Vice-Chief of the Section of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla. He currently holds the position of Secretary/Treasurer of the San Diego County Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Study Club.
Charitable Work
Dr. Ferdowsmakan regularly donates his time to charitable activities and enjoys giving back to the community. He is involved with volunteer organizations that provide surgical treatment for children with cleft lip and palate and craniofacial birth defects in Baja Mexico.
